A Mystery in the Lands

The sound of pounding hooves breaks the stillness of the forest. A figure slowly takes shape as it aproaches the border of the land. The horse slows as it enters the lofty forest, the bits of light filtering between the leaves showing at last what type of visitor this is. It is a majestic arabian stallion, with a bright blue roan coat and a mane and tail of shocking white.
The stallion comes to a stop in a clearing, and as silence rolls over the forest once more, another detail becomes visible. The stallion's coat is criss-crossed by white, where old scars were.
The strange stallion looks around, taking in the beauty of the lofty trees and the plentiful grass, but most of all, he notes the stillness of the air. Not a whinny or a snort can be heard, not the sound of a hoof, nor the sound of any breath but his own.
He tosses up his head and makes a whistling call, shattering the stillness. He listens for a moment, but no reply comes. Then he rears, pawing the air, and again his call shatters the air, but this time different, more triumphant, even more piercing than before.

I hear a call and prick my ears. I recognise it as a claiming call, and something deep inside me roars for me to challenge. I shake my head to dislodge this thought. No. I don't particularly want to settle down. Not in my spirit. I suppose I'm a rouge. Anyway, I am just passing through this until now, unclaimed land. I pick my way carefully through the trees and come to the clearing where the tall, arabian was standing. I dip my head in aknoladgement of his claim. "Greetings, my lord," I say, "I am just passing through. 'Though, it grows dark, may I stay the night upon your lands? I do not want to intrude in anyway . . . ." I watch him anxiously, hoping he will not drive me off. I do not fancy spending the night out in the open barren lands beyond this place.

The blue stallion wheels around as the other stallion aproaches, ready for a challenge, if that is what he brings. He looks over the other stallion, and listens as he speaks; he does not seem to be a threat, and he may even be a good wheeler if he desides to stay.
The blue stallion snorts, "You may stay, at least for now. My name is Mystery. What is your's?"

"Thank you," I say when he accepts. "I'm Siristan. I am from the east. And you?" It is very quiet here, I realise. I vaugely wonder why, but I can't come up with an answer. Oh well.

Mystery sighs and says, "I have lived in many lands. I was born a land far away, but I do not remember where that was." Mystery falls quiet for a moment, but then shakes his mane, dispelling the thoughts of his past.

As a chilled wind blows a stag not to far away hears the conversing and stays in the shadows waiting for a right time to jion. He canters down the the field and skidds to a stop as he sees a scared stag. His golden appalossa spotted coat glows in the sun as he turns. A flash of silver is shone.
